About this work

Description

By the 18070s it was clear that the Retreat needed extension; the building of the Gentlemen’s New Lodge was the first outcome of a number of plans and suggestions. For suggestions on expansion by William Williamson, made at the instigation of the Medical Superintendent, John Kitching, see plans at RET 2/1/10. See also Daniel Hack Tuke’s letters on alterations and improvements at RET 5/9/11(2)
