Biographical note
George Wharton, astrologer, born Westmoreland. Served the cause of Charles I and when that collapsed wrote a number of almanacks, astronomical tracts, a chronology of remarkable events, and other works. He was also the author of some doggrel verses. After the restoration he was created a baronet and made treasurer of the ordnance.
