About this work

Description

Health pass (fede di sanità) enabling the bearer to pass freely despite there being quarantines and heavy restrictions on travel due to plague. There are three woodcuts above the main body of text. The first shows San Donnino (the patron saint of Montecchio Emilia) beheaded. The central one is the coat of arms of the municipality of Montecchio Emilia (a wedding ring with a diamond, symbol of the everlasting union between the town and the family d’Este, dukes in Modena, Reggio Emilia and Ferrara). The third is of a monk with a halo, right hand on his breast and a lily in his left hand. Details of the persons concerned would be entered by hand in the space below the text and signed by an official. This copy was used on 27 January 1722.
