Heatley's correspondence with people and organisations mainly relating to his microbiological research work, journal articles by others submitted for publication in the Journal of General Microbiology, people enquiring about positions in the UK, invitations to Heatley to make contributions to publications on antibiotics.

Includes correspondence with the Smithsonian Institute re obtaining some of the culture vessels used in the 1940s development of penicillin (see also C/8), the Department of Microbiology, Kyoto University, Japan, Astra (Sweden), Rothamsted Experimental Station, British Veterinary Assocation, Merck & Co Inc., Department of Genetics Glasgow University, scientists in France, India, Canada, Czechoslovakia and South Africa, and equipment and materials companies.
