About this work

Description

Kean has his feet in a steaming bowl which is on top of a book entitled: "Shakespeare", on the round table next to him is the figure of Duncan rising from a bowl of "gruel from her majesty" saying "Sleep no more". Letters are scattered around his feet, on the table above them is a bottle of medicine labelled: "C. Kean Esq as often as required", also on that table is a small open book on which is written: "Critiques Times & c."

"Mr. Charles Kean is seriously indisposed. He is suffering from the effects of overmark and consequent nervous exhaustaion complicated by an attack of influenza." Vide public press.
