Mark Newton lives in North London near Alexandra Palace and is excited to be involved in such an exclusive project. A retired chemical specialist for the fire department he now volunteers as a community responder with the London Ambulance Service. As a fan of Antony Gormley's work he was attracted to the unique nature of the project. Dressed in a mock-up of a late 18th century mariner's uniform (white breeches, navy jacket with brass buttons, a black neck kerchief and a tricolore hat), he hopes to raise awareness for the Jubilee Sailing Trust, a charity that enables people with physical disabilities to sail tall ships. He has a limb disability (his legs), and this charity has helped him with his interest in sailing. On the plinth he will spend his time just 'being' and looking at the crowd, he has also brought along some ropes to demonstrate knot tying.
