About this work

Description

Traces the life of revolutionary psychiatrist and author R.D. Laing (1927-1989). Documentary film and testimonies describe his childhood, his attainment of a glittering reputation in the 1960s and the events which turned the tide of his popularity, leading to contempt and dismissal in the later years of his career. Among those taking part are his first wife, Anne Laing, his daughter Karen Heenan and his son Adrian C. Laing; psychotherapists Dr. Haya Oakley and Dr. Leon Redler; David Bell, an ex-patient of Laing's revolutionary "community house", Kingsley Hall; and Dr. Richard Gelfer (retired psychiatrist and family friend).
