About this work

Description

Gross pathology of the liver and spleen At the top of this picture are the spleen (left) and liver (right) from an autopsy of a child. They show a normal spleen and liver appearance. At the bottom of the picture are the spleen and liver from the autopsy of a child who died of malaria, which are a darker colour than the normal organs. The dark colour comes from extreme congestion and heavy deposition of haemozoin.
