Notes

Peter Beck is from Huddersfield and having left school at 16 he worked as an architect's assistant. After being made redundant he then started working for the council in housing and housing regeneration, he is now in a quite a senior role and develops council estates. He is very supportive of the myriad of people who have taken part, and believes it uniquely reflects Britain. While he is aware of Gormley's work, this did not influence his decision to apply, and insists he is not an arty person. He applied on a whim and claims he doesn't have a reason for doing this project arguing there is no 'why' behind is decision apart from to just do it. On the plinth he will be fly-fishing and he has chosen this as it's a passion of his and he hopes to get people interested in it. He hopes people will ask him about fly fishing or abuse him, he doesn't mind which.
