Description

Diagram showing the path of the small intestine channel of hand taiyang, woodcut illustration from Xu Shi zhenjiu daquan, first published in 1439. The small intestine channel of hand taiyang is ruled by the third of the ten Heavenly Stems (bing) in conjunction with the eighth of the Earthly Branches (xin). The small intestine draws Qi.

Other lettering: Bing day: in the shen time period (3:00 - 5:00 pm) on a jia day, the small intestine channel opens at shaoze (Lesser Marsh), which is a well (jing) point with the attribute of metal. In the xu time period (7:00 - 9:00 pm) on a jia day, the stomach channel opens at neiting (Inner Courtyard), which is a spring (ying) point with the attribute of water. In the zi time period (11:00 pm - 1:00 am) on a geng day, the large intestine channel opens at san jian (Third Belt), which is a spring (ying) point with the attribute of wood; and it traverses wangu (Mastoid Process), which is the small intestine source (yuan) point. In the yin time period (3:00 - 5:00 am) on a ren day, the bladder channel opens at kunlun (Kunlun Mountains), which is a river (jing) point with the attribute of fire. In the chen time period (7:00 - 9:00 am) on a jia day, the gall bladder channel opens at yanglingquan (Yang Mound Spring), which is a sea (he) point with the attribute of earth. In the wu time period (11:00 am - 1:00 pm) on a bing day, Qi is received at zhongzhu Central Islet) a stream (shu) point of the Triple Burner with the attribute of wood. Bing corresponds to wood, and fire is engendered by wood.
