Biographical note

Helene Grahame was born in 1925, educated at North London Collegiate School and obtained a BSc (Econ) at the London School of Economics, 1945. From 1945-1946 she did war service as a civil servant with Combined Operations and the Admirality. After working in public relations and publishing, in 1950 she stopped work in order to raise her family. 1950-1960 was engaged in voluntary committee and lecturing with the National Institute of Housecraft. In 1965 she returned to full-time employment with the Family Planning Association as Press and Information Officer, working in that capacity until 1971. Later in that year she took a post with a public relations consultancy but then resigned to look for a post in the area of public, professional or community service. She was also involved with the Pregnancy Advisory Service and the Birth Control Trust.

A brief obituary appeared in The Guardian.
