Description

Lettering from top left to right, bottom left to right. Lavater analyses each eye. Briefly, (1) "shows force, candour and goodness", in (2) "the upper part is more expressive than the under"; (3) reveals "an energetic fool"; (4) "loves, believes, hopes and suffers: he has the power of concentrating different faculties toward one and the same point"
