Lettering

In virtute huius segni tau que signni lither ... in morbe eta... liber nos Deus noster amen Iesu fili De... Contra maleficia et pestem; contra ignem et tempestates. Trina unitas Iesu Maria Josrph. The cross is inscribed with abbreviations. The Latin text is often mis-spelt. "La" in the lettering around the Virgin may refer to Landshut, where from 1680 the Ursuline convent preserved a copy of a Roman painting of the Virgin with her head inclined
