The compiler was M.D. of Aberdeen University, and later professor emeritus of the same university. He was President of the B.M.A. 1914, 1915 and Hon. Col. R.A.M.C. to the Highland (Territorial) Division in the First World War, serving in Serbia in 1915, and in Italy during the following two years.
