About this work

Description

Notebook contains Captain Harold E Whittingham's research notes on bacteriology and various infectious diseases including typhoid fever, typhus, trench fever, yellow fever, syphilis as well as other diseases. The other half consists of research notes on water, milk, antiseptics in food, disinfectants, food preservatives, poisonous metals and notes on various acts relating to sanitary law including the Isolation Hospitals Act, Midwives Act 1902, Notification of Births Act 1907, Houses and Town Planning Act 1909 and the Medical Officer of Health for the county 1910. Notebook contains loose inserts the majority of which are reprints of medical leaflets which include information on Kahn's antigen for syphilis, Wellcome brand toxin for Schick reaction and tuberculins as well as hand written notes on sanitation and hygiene for military personnel. Also includes hand drawn diagrams and charts.

Whittingham conducted this research whilst serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) so content was possibly created in India, but no location is recorded.
