View of a port, sea in the foreground, colonial buildings in middle ground to the right, mountains and sky in background. Several ships at anchor in the port, including, in the centre, one with at least four decks and a roof or awning over the top deck, with smoking chimney stacks: Naval receiving ship "HMS Princess Charlotte", which was in Hong Kong 1858-1873. On the extreme left a coaler

This is one of a collection of original glass negatives made by John Thomson. The negatives, made between 1868 and 1872, were purchased from Thomson by Sir Henry Wellcome in 1921
