About this work

Description

Unedited video rushes of the opening speeches of the Culture, Health and the Arts (CHARTS) world symposium held at Manchester Metropolitan University, 13-16 April, 1999.

The aim of the conference was to explore the central role that culture plays in the health of the community, the family and the individual whilst also providing an insight into how the arts and design have a special part to play in health and healing. The key themes were health, the environment, society and the human spirit.

Speakers featured are: Sandra Burslem, Kath Robinson, Lord Attenborough and Peter Senior. There is footage of delegates at the exhibition and of Peter Senior talking to Patch Adams. The tape also includes shots of the accompanying art A Picture of Health art exhibition and recordings of some of the dance performers and musicians - Kala Sangham, Malay, Indian and African dance, African drumming and a Chinese Violinist.
