"Reports on the future activities of the TRC"

A number of documents that address the future prospects of the TRC, as follows:

23 November, 1944. "Report of Special Meeting of Board held in Mr Bennett's Room, The Wellcome Research Institution". The purpose of the meeting is noted as: "To receive from the Chairman and Mr Anderson an account of the negotiations in America with Merck, Squibb and Pfizer, concerning the conditions under which technical information on the process of production of Penicillin by deep fermentation could be made available to Member-Companies of the Therapeutic Research Corporation; to note the terms of agreement proposed to be entered into with Merck, Squibb and Pfizer by Boots Pure Drug Co Ltd and Glaxo Laboratories Ltd, subject to approval by the Ministry of Supply; and to consider matters arising in connection therewith."

[1944]. "Report on Discussion on Future Activities of TRC. To be read in conjunction with Min. 403." Min. 403 required that each member company should state their views on the future of TRC.

7 February, 1945. "Report of Discussion on Future of TRC at Meeting of Board on 6th February 1945. To be read in conjunction with Min. 428."

27 June, 1945. "Report of Special Meeting of Directors of TRC and Managing-Directors of Member Companies of TRC to Consider Future Activities of TRC". Matters discussed were: "Desire of The Wellcome Foundation Ltd to withdraw from membership", "Reasons for decision by The Wellcome Foundation Ltd", "Experience of other Companies", and "Proposals for meeting present difficulties".

27 June, 1945. "Future Activities of TRC. Memorandum to the Research Panel from the Secretary TRC prepared on instructions of the Board to assist the Meeting of the Research Panel convened for Friday, June 29th...."

30 June, 1945. "Report of Special Meeting of Research Panel Executive to Consider Proposal as to Future Activities of TRC...."

30 June, 1945. "Financial Position of TRC Estimated as at June 30th, 1945". Summary figures.

3 July, 1945. "Report of discussion on Future Activities of TRC at Meeting of Board on 3rd July 1945. To be read in conjunction with Min. 478".

3 July, 1945. "Summary of discussion of the Board on 3rd July, 1945, arising out of consideration of Report on Research Panel Executive's consideration of proposal as to future activities of TRC".

[July 1945]. "Memorandum from the Secretary to members of the Research Panel Executive," noting various decisions taken by the Board.

12 November, 1945. Memorandum from Frank Hartley, "Re: Formulation of policy for dealing with the development of products emerging from TRC, sponsored research and collaborative research within TRC". Refers to particular compounds prepared by Petrow, and to the further development of other compounds derived from collaborative research.

8 December, 1945. "Memorandum from the Secretary," referring to several specific research issues (Petrow's research, Compound 245, Streptomycin). With copy memorandum (10 December) to Lord Trent attached.

12 January, 1946. Frank Hartley, "TRC - Whence and Whither?"

22 January, 1946. "Formulation of Policy Towards Products Emerging from TRC Research." Report of Board Meeting discussion, to be read in conjunction with Min. 520 and Min. 523.

26 January, 1948. "Future of TRC. Informal discussion between representatives of member-companies...." Whilst all members "were against a legal winding up of TRC ... there was no indication that members would find it practicable to get back to the original aims of inter-company work on pooled subjects."
