Biographical note
James Anderson (1739-1808) was born in Hermiston near Edinburgh, and is regarded as a prominent agriculturalist and influential political economist. Anderson was prolific during his lifetime, author of a great number of newpaper articles and pamphlets. Anderson was a good friend of Jeremy Bentham and allegedly involved with Bentham's plans for the Panopticon, a model economical prison. His social standing is further demonstrated by the publication of correspondence with George Washington in 1800.
