About this work

Description

Unedited video rushes from the Culture, Health and the Arts (CHARTS) world symposium held at Manchester Metropolitan University, 13-16 April, 1999.

The aim of the conference was to explore the central role that culture plays in the health of the community, the family and the individual whilst also providing an insight into how the arts and design have a special part to play in health and healing. The key themes were health, the environment, society and the human spirit.

The tape includes recordings of dance performers - Kala Sangham, Malay, Indian and African dance, African drumming and a Chinese Violinist. Also includes some shots of art works in the A Picture of Health exhibition and footage of some of the speakers, including Patch Adams.

Towards the end of the tape, the sound quality is very poor.
