Description

7 paintings and drawings by Elizabeth Rothschild, sister of trustee Miriam Rothschild, created as a child between 1916-1922. Liberty was later diagnosed as a schizophrenic and inspired Miriam to create the Schizophrenia Research Fund, dedicated to promoting the understanding, treatment, and cure of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. Also includes a photograph of a woman seated in a chair presumed to be Liberty when living with her sister at Ashton Wold in the 1980s.

Arrangement

Prior to Wellcome Collection, one of the artworks mounted in black card was framed and stored in a former shower room on 1st floor of Reay House, Lambeth Hospital. The work has been deframed during cataloguing for preservation reasons.
