Description
This collection mainly reflects the research he carried out on the history of teaching nutrition in medical schools. Background research (mainly off-prints, newsletters and copies of articles), drafts and correspondence in connection with Donald S.McLaren's study of the history of teaching nutrition in medical schools. Including copy of McLaren's final article, 'Nutrition in medical schools: a case of mistaken identity', published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1994, 59, pp.960-963. Off-prints and copy articles date back to the 1830s but the correspondence and research is c.1990-1994. McLaren's article generated some debate in the field. Also includes a copy of David Smith's Phd thesis 'Nutrition in Britain in the 20th Century' University of Edinburgh 1986 and a copy of his typed interview with Prof. J Yudkin in 1979.

Biographical note
Professor Donald S.McLaren worked in the field of nutrition and nutrition education. He has published various works on different aspects of nutrition and nutritional disorders. These range from nutrition in the community and Vitamin A deficiency to paediatric nutrition etc. His particular interest lay in Vitamin A deficiency disorders. He also taught at the International Center for Eye Health (ICEH) and served as editor of Xerophthalmia Club Bulletin. His work spans over the best part of half a century to the mid 1990's.
