About this work

Description

A magazine insert featuring a Phil May illustration dated 1900. It shows a humorous scene in an 18th century barber's shop. The barber's attention has strayed to an attractive young woman passing the open door and has just prodded his customer in the eye with the shaving brush. A black cat looks on from the foreground. Printed in black, pale blue and red on a brown background. A poster for Pear's Soap is between the door and window. The back advertises Pears' Shaving Stick which lasts for 12 months and "does not cause redness or irritation of the skin".
