Description
Used cheque book for S M Burroughs & Co and Burroughs Wellcome & Co, marked "VIA". The City Bank, Holborn Branch, 34 Holborn Viaduct. With completed cheque stubs and adhered processed cheques, beginning 26 August 1880, to 24 November 1880. Cheques numbered AM6301 - AM6400.
Cheques AM6301 - AM6342 are signed S M Burroughs & Co. Cheques AM6343 - AM6400 are signed Burroughs Wellcome & Co.
A slip of paper inserted (some time ago, prior to cataloguing) at cheque AM6345 (5 October, 1880) identifies it as the first signature of "Burroughs Wellcome & Co" in the hand of Henry Wellcome (readily verifiable from the distinctive manner in which his own surname is written).
