Biographical note
Allman, George James (1812-1898), naturalist, born in Cork. In 1844, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. However, his real interest was marine zoology. He gained his reputation from his investigations into the classification and morphology of the Coelenterata and Polyzoa. He died in 1898.
