    more than the current population estimates based on the census held ten years previously. Since the labour unrest in 1963, a battalion of British troops had been stationed in Swaziland for the purpose of helping, if called upon to do so, in internal security operations in Swaziland, Basutoland and Bechuana- land. In November, the 1st Battalion of the Royal Irish Fusiliers were withdrawn and were not replaced. Apart from the labour troubles in 1963, the troops were not called upon to perform internal security operations in any of the three territories. Swaziland continued to receive many visitors. Among them were: Mr John Stonehouse, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies; Baron Lowe van Aduard, the Netherlands Ambassador to South Africa; Mr H. J. Downing, the British Consul-General in Lourenco Marques; Mr Walter Hood and Mr F. Hayday, of the British Trades Union Congress; Dr Walter Howe, of the American Council for Educa¬ tion in Africa; Mr I. S. Fraser, chief of the public administration section of the Economic Commission for Africa; Vice-Admiral J.M.D. Gray, Commander-in-Chief of the South Atlantic and South America Station; Dr W. Junker, the German Ambassador to South Africa; Sir Hugh Stephenson, the British Ambassador to South Africa; and Admiral Sir Michael Le Fanu, the Commander-in-Chief, Middle East.
