About this work

Description

The two men appear to be dancing with one another, one wearing a dress and hat, and holding an umbrella. The other man wears a top hat, a white shirt and black suit. His cane leans against the painted backdrop. This offset litho printed card would indicate that the image was sufficiently popular to be produced in large quantities

One of them is the same drag performer as in a photograph of Gregory and Brown, who introduced the Cake-Walk dance to Paris in 1902 (Wellcome Library no. 2044881i, wearing the same costume, but with a different dance-partner)
