Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Dandified 'effeminate' men of fashion were known as 'Nuts' ("Brit. slang. A fashionable or showy young man"-- OED, with quotations between 1904 and 1923). They were seen as the male equivalent of 'Suffragettes', and the depiction of one of them here goes one step further and actually puts them in semi-drag".
