Lettering

The monument of the late, worthy, great, good, pious, and charitable Edward Colston, Esq. G. Scotin sculp. Above the effigy, lettering headed "The publick charities and benefactions given and founded by Edward Colston Esq." lists charitable disbursements by Colston. Below the effigy, further lettering: "Edward, the son of William Colston, Esq.r (and Sarah his wife) was born in Bristol Novemb. 2, 1636. Died at Mortlake in Surrey Octob. 11, 1721 and lies interr'd in All-Saints Church, Bristol."
