Biographical note
The visit was mainly for the Symposium '20 Jahre Penicillin V', organised by Biochemie; Chain gave the introductory lecture which was published in a slightly shortened version under the title 'Beiträge des Biochemikers zur Arzneimittel-forschung' in Wiener Klinische Wochenschrift, 1974 (Bibliog.) 163).
During his visit Chain also addressed the Gesellschaft der Ärzte in Wien and took part in a Round Table discussion at Sandoz.
In March, Chain was awarded the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold for services rendered to the Republic of Austria, and was nominated Hon. Member of the Gesellschaft der Wiener Ärzte (see J.136).
