Biographical note

On a fly-leaf 'William W. Gull. Oct 22nd, 1838. Guy's Hospital'. He had obtained his M.D. in 1846, and was physician to the hospital in 1850, having been elected F.R.C.P. in 1848, and F.R.S. in 1869. He attended the Prince of Wales in 1871, was created a baronet in 1872, and physician to Queen Victoria in 1887 [see the Dictionary of National Biography].
