Description
In 1939 an informal group comprising doctors and scientists called the Committee for the Study of Social Medicine was established. Hart was appointed secretary. The group was initially brought together to agree on a definition of social medicine. Members met to discuss ideas, arranged lectures and undertook a number of surveys, however their records were destroyed during a bombing raid in the Second World War and the Committee elected to disband. This file contains copies of two publications issued by the committee: Report of the Joint Committee Set up to Enquire into the Income and Food Expenditure of Tuberculosis Households in Wartime (c.1942) and Diptheria Immunisation in England and Wales (1942). Also includes correspondence with Julian Tudor Hart and Geoff Watts regarding the history of the committee (2000-2001) and related off-prints (1997-2001) and a document outlining Hart's own recollections of the group.
