About this work

Early 1950s Rank Studio publicity shot of Dirk Bogarde (1921-1999). Bogarde was closeted in his personal and professional life despite playing the lead role in the film 'Victim' in 1961, the first commercial British film to have a cast of homosexual characters. He later played the role of Gustav von Aschenbach in 'Death in Venice'. He shared several homes with his agent and life partner Anthony Forwood (James Gardiner)
