About this work
Description
Ledger is titled, "Perfused Stomachs", and contains handwritten notes and test results, including test graphs, from tests regarding perfused stomachs. Whilst the spine of the ledger is dated 1951-1953, when Vane was at Oxford, the book also contains details of experiments performed at Shefield University in 1948 and 1949, at Yale University in 1953 and 1954 (including histamine and potassium tests) and performed whilst at the Royal College of Surgeons in 1956. Notes include:-
Sheffield University tests. Desciptions of test methodology, test apparatus and test results, beginning 17 October 1948 and running to 20 June 1949.
Oxford University tests. Desciptions of test methodology, test apparatus and test results, including tables of results and graphical representations of results, beginning 15 December 1949 and running to 11 January 1952. Then Vane has marked the ledger, "new series", and experiments run from 27 March 1952 until 18 March 1953.
Yale University tests. Desciptions of test methodology, test apparatus and test results, including tables of results and graphical representations of results. There is a single experiment out of order dated 22 March 1954 under a tab called, "adrenaline" and then experiments begin on 23 October 1953 and run to 13 May 1954. Following a large gap in the ledger, there is another tab called, "histamine and potassium", and experiments run from 12 November 1953 until 27 July 1954.
Sheffield University tests. Desciptions of test methodology, test apparatus and test results, beginning 27 February 1956 and running to 25 May 1956.
