About this work

Description

Correspondence and personal papers acquired with Hill's library. Notes cover the wide range of subjects in which Hill was interested, such as literature, language (particularly derivations of words), history and biology, accumulated during periods of residence in South Africa and the USA as well as after his return to England in 1914.

Letters deal chiefly with family matters (including a long dispute over his father's will) or with attempts to find employment.

Hill's chief scientific interest was in the problem of rinderpest afflicting cattle in South Africa, and in attempts to control it by inoculation.

Correspondents include J. C. Cronwright-Schreiner (husband of Olive Schreiner).
