About this work

Description

A lively documentary on the perception of time in humans, birds and insects. Prof. John Gibbon (NYS Psychiatric Institute/ Columbia University) and Dr. Rae Silver (Barnard College/ Columbia University) describe their research, with film of their experiments with egg-sitting routines of ring doves and with human volunteers. They conclude that 3 brain areas are active in assessing time and that one brain cell acts as bodyclock by its production of a protein. The programme contains interesting observations on why time may seem to race or crawl, on the individual nature of the bodyclock and on the future of the '24 hour' society.
