    In this connection special thanks are due to Mrs. Allen, who so kindly presented an, altar cloth and frontal; toi Mr. and Mrs. Child for a cross, candlesticks and vases, and to Messrs Godwin and Thynne for the floor tiles. THE LIFT.—The question of installing a hand-operated lift had already] been before the Committee. That it would be of immense benefit, particularly in the conveyance of stretcher cases was, generally recognised, but after very careful consideration the Committee did not feel justified m incurring the expense. The question was re-opened by a letter from Sir Percy Densham, offering to arrange the installation of a lift at a sub¬ stantially lower figure than any of the estimates before the Com¬ mittee and to pay for the structural work. This was followed by a letter from Mrs. Trafford, offering to defray; the cost of the lift, and the offers were gratefully accepted. The most sincere thanks are due to Mrs.. Trafford and Sir Percy Densham for their generous gift. Amongst other matters, two of some importance that, had to be dealt with by your Committee' are worthy of mention. Early in the year a proposal was received from the promoters of the Hereford Hospital Contributory Scheme, that this Hospital {should join on a contracting out basis. The proposal wias to- the effect that your Committee should give their support, to the enrolment of contributors in the- Eoss District on the condition that in the event of a contributor' elect¬ ing to be treated in this Hospital, payment at a fixed rate per diem should be made bv Hereford. The matter was fully discussed at various committee meetings, but the proposal was. eventually rejected. The supply of electricity has for some- time been a source of anxiety to your Committee. The intention of the Company supplying it to change from direct to alternating current necessitated modifications to the X-Eay Plant at considerable expense-. Negotiations between, the Company and yoiur Committee were proceeding throughout the year, and it is hoped that a, satis¬ factory settlement will shortly be reached. Mrs. William Thompson, in relinquishing her position as head of the Linen League, again appeals for1 its support. The Committee- wish to- offer their most hearty thanks for the excellent work she has. done, and are glad to be able to say that Mrs. Trafford has kindly consented to act as her successor.
