On the third fly-leaf 'Richardus Whitfield. Southwark. 1790': his armorial bookplate inscribed 'R. Whitfield St. Thomas's Southward', is pasted inside the upper cover. He was Apothecary to the Hospital from 1801 to his death in 1832.
