Biographical note
John Edward Saul studied at the Royal Institution Laboratory, Liverpool, and Liverpool Chemists Association School, before moving to London to attend the Central School of Chemistry.
In 1884 he qualified as a pharmaceutical chemist, and became a member of the Pharmaceutical Society. In the same year he joined the staff of Savory and Moore as Head of the Laboratories. He spent the rest of his career with the company, eventually becoming a Director.
John Saul was awarded the Pereira Medal by the Pharmaceutical Society in 1885, and remained an active member of the society throughout his life, both through his contributions to the Journal, and his work as an examiner.
