Biographical note

Walter Holland, whose first contact with the IEA was at the 3rd International Scientific Meeting in Korcula, Yugoslavia in 1961, was a leading member and occupied senior positions within the Association over 40 years. A prominent epidemiologist and clinician, he established the first Department of Clinical Epidemiology in the western world at St.Thomas' Hospital Medical School, London, UK.

Positions held in the IEA:

1964 - 1968 Editor of Bulletin, Council and Executive Committee member;

1968 - 1971 IEA Secretary and Executive Committee member;

1971 - 1977 Council member;

1971 - 1977 Founder/Editor,International Journal of Epidemiology (IJE);

1987 - 1990 President, IEA;

1990 - 1993 Past President/Council member.
