Description

This Committee included representatives from the MRC, ICRF, BECC, the Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and various other (pathology and radiology) related organizations, and observers from the Ministry of Health. Set up in 1954 to provide a direct and authoritative link with the International Union Against Cancer (Union Internationale contre le Cancer), which was established in 1934, and any other bodies wishing to communicate with Britain on cancer. Covered research into causation and cure, plus methods of treatment, investigations into suggested cures. The first Chairman of the BNCC was Lord Horder (1954-1955), who was at that time also Chairman of the Campaign (see E.3/2). Upon his death in Aug 1955 he was succeeded by Sir Stanford Cade (see E.3/5), representing the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Minutes start from the first meeting of the committee.
