About this work

Description

Histopathology of the liver This is a medium power view of a section of liver from an autopsy of a child with falciparum malaria. It shows glycogen which is granular and stained pink. There are plentiful stores of glycogen in this example. In many children with severe malaria, glycogen is depleted from the liver in association with hypoglycaemia. In such cases, no pink-staining glycogen is seen. Best's carmine stain (for glycogen).
