Notes

John Caffrey is from Sutton Coldfield. He is here to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of the sea scouts because he is a sea scout leader. He will appeal for people to volunteer with the organisation. His activities on the plinth have been decided by the sea scout troop he works with so he will pitch a tent, cook a bacon sandwich and will be leading a carol concert dressed as Father Christmas. He is being sponsored so hopes to run a good Christmas party for the scout troop and people from the local old people's care home. He used to be quite athletic and has been self-employed for many years. He has been involved in scouting for many years - he was a scout at the fiftieth anniversary and leader at the one hundredth. He has taken night school classes for many years and has most recently learnt fly fishing. He has heart problems for a number of years but it now appears to have improved. Today and tomorrow are important for him, also smiling and having a bit of fun. He thinks that as the project goes on there will be more people who tend towards exhibitionism but that there will be a strain of Britishness that runs through the whole project.
