    Medical Chests, LETTERS PATENT to Richard Kniglit, of Foster Lane, in the City of London, for the Invention of “ Improvements in Medical Chests.” Sealed the 8th August 1856, and dated the 13th February 1856. PROVISIONAL SPECIFICATION left by the said Richard Knight at the Office of the Commissioners of Patents, with his Petition, on the 13 th February 1856. I, Richard Knight, of Foster Lane, in the City of London, do hereby 5 declare the nature of the Invention for “ Improvements in Medical Chests,” to be as follows :— This Invention has for its object improvements in medical chests, particularly applicable for the army and navy, though they may also be used in other cases; for which purpose there are in each instance an external and an internal chest. 10 The external chest contains the internal chest when being carried from place to place, and the external chest forms the stand for the internal one when the same is open and is placed in position for use. The external case consists of a strong box of wood, strengthened with and having metal fittings; this case has a cover, hinged at the top, and the front folds down on hinges, so that its 15 interior surface thereof, when horizontal, becomes level with the bottom, on which, and on the inner surface of the front, are formed grooves or tracks, in which parallel fixed projections on the under side of the inner chest slide when the inner chest is taken out of or placed into the outer chest; and the upper
