The recipient of item 7 is not certain but a pencil endorsement on the letter suggests that it may be the pathologist Thomas Hodgkin (1798-1866).

Biographical note
Alcock, Sir (John) Rutherford (1809-1897), diplomatist, born in Ealing. In 1832, he was appointed surgeon to the British-Portuguese forces operating in Portugal. He was forced to end his career as a surgeon because he suffered from muscular trouble in his hands. He was appointed British consul in China and Japan. In 1862, he was knighted. He died in 1897.
