    Burns’ Improvements in Compounds for Treating Venereal Disease, calendar months next and immediately after the date of the said Letters Patent. NOW KNOW YE, that I, the said Dinnis Burns, do hereby declare the nature of my said Invention, and in what manner the same is to he performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by 5 the following statement, that is to say:— My said Invention, which relates to certain compounds or combinations of substances for the more effective treatment of those diseases of the generative organs of man known under the generic name of “ venereal ” disease, but which exists in different forms and stages, consists as 10 follows, it being explained that the various compounds herein-after described are each employed for treating different stages of the disease. The compounds or combinations of substances used for those forms of the disease known as “ syphilis,” “ seminal weakness,” and “ nervou debility,” consists (first) of one quart of water and ten grains cochineal 15 mixed, each ounce of which mixture is also combined with one drop of nitric acid and one drop of muriatic acid, A wineglassfull to be taken twice a day. (Secondly.) A decoction of sarsaparilla combined with £C iodide of potassium” in proportion of one ounce of decoction of sarsaparilla to 20 seven grains of £C iodide of potassium,” A tablespoonfull to be taken twice a-day alternately with the former mixture for e£ syphilis.” The third part of this Invention relates to a lotion for external use in treating <£ syphilisit consists of lime water and calomel in the pro¬ portion of one ounce of lime water to three grains of calomel, with or 25 without a portion of nitrate of silver added thereto, with a decoction of “ slippery elm.” The furth part of this Invention consists of a preparation for the treatment of “ spermatorrhoea ” of the following substances, viz., dry phosphoric acid,” “ powdered chincona,” “ extract casearilla,” each one 30 ounce ; “ prepared oyster shells ” 15 grains, “ powdered iron ” 45 grains, made into pills with mucilage of gum arabic, with powder composed of “ bayberry,” “ ginger,” and “ capsicum.” Four of these pills to be taken three times a-day. The fifth part of this Invention relates to combinations of substances 35 to be used in treating that form of the disease known as “ gonorrhoea,” and it consists of “ balsam copaiva,” gum arabic mucilage, and solution
