Biographical note
Joining Bowlby's Tavistock Research Unit in 1962 (see Section D.3), Parkes began to visit widows in their homes to study the course of normal grief in adults and found links between phases of separation in young children with those in adult grief. He later used attachment theory in looking at attitudes to the dying and bereaved.
