Description

The National Survey began in 1946 and was funded by various organisations, including the Nuffield and Ford foundations. The Society replaced the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists on the Joint Committee in 1952. Dr H M Cohen was the Society's representative.

Some minutes, surveys and drafts of the report of this Committee can be found in the papers of Sir (William) Allen Daley, see PP/AWD/ H.2. Dr H M Cohen's set of copy minutes and papers (with some gaps), including specimen 2 newspaper cuttings on population, 1937-1938, school doctor's medical examination form, Mar 1952, Survey progress report, Feb 1956, various journal articles relating to methods and results, 1956, correspondence with Survey Director Dr J W B Douglas regarding compilation of follow-up medical examination questionnaires and published report of 'The Pre-School Period' findings, Sep 1957.
