    The Directors have now to report that these plans having been completed, and having been carefully gone over and con¬ sidered by the Building Committee, were finally approved of. In consideration of the interest taken in the work by the Commissioners in Lunacy, and of the valuable advice and assistance rendered by them in the selection of a site for the New Asylum, it was further resolved that the plans should be submitted to the inspection of the General Board of Lunacy in Edinburgh. This was accordingly done. The Board ex¬ pressed satisfaction with the plans, and suggested various improvements of a minor character, which were given effect to. As stone suitable for building purposes was known to exist on the West Green property, the Architects were directed to have the rock laid bare, and to ascertain how far it could be made available in the erection of the New Asylum. Their report being favourable, and samples of rubble-work having been prepared, and inspected by the Committee, they were further instructed to complete their specifications and schedules and advertise for tenders. These have now been received, and are under the consideration of the Committee. Arrangements have also been made with the tenant of a farm near West Green for the temporary cultivation of so much of the Estate as will not be required for the erection of the building. While the Directors are thus able to indicate satisfactory progress in regard to the New Asylum, they have satisfaction in being able to report that the present Institution continues in a prosperous state. By referring to the accompanying accounts, it will be seen that while the income for the year has been £6898 3s. 4d., the expenditure has only been £6440 9s. 10d., leaving a balance of £457 13s. 6d. in favour of the Institution.
