About this work

Description

This material relates to Chick's important work with the Lister Institute/Medical Research Council Mission in Vienna in the aftermath of World War I, 1919-1921, on disorders of infant malnutrition, in particular rickets. The team she worked with discovered the curative treatment by ultra-violet light or codliver oil, a significant development in the understanding of the role of vitamins in maintaining health. The material in this section relating to research is supplemented by her diaries PP/CHI/A.1/3-5 which cover her period in Vienna.
